How Nursing with Intention can overthrow the Goliath of social injustice

In the middle of a global pandemic, our profession has witnessed immeasurable deaths, protests stemmed from recurrent racially motivated violence, and furloughs. Where do we go from here?
As the definitive voice of NP students, our mission is to keep you updated with every aspect of your life in and out of school. This includes a safe space to talk about race. As the most trusted profession it is important that we move with an intention which means not conforming to trends that can negatively impact our positions. The key to fighting for social justice for the Black community is to demonstrate love with all who we come in contact with. Particularly, having a love for humanity because it does three things:
1. Keeps our focus on the goal.
2. Keeps us accountable to each other.
3. Keeps us going until we achieve equality, the desired goal.
With that being said, what is the goal?
We have been presented with an opportunity to revisit our foundation and views about race in our profession now that the nation is “woke”. The movement for social justice begins with evaluating ourselves and then the extension of ourselves (family, community, and jobs). Only then can we move forward to address the three S’
1. System
2. Structures
3. Sin — not about religion but immoral acts against the divine law. Killing another human is a public health issue and we are socially responsible to be apart of the solution by first modeling equality for the community. It is everyone against Goliath.
