The beginning of it all..

I grew up with a younger brother who gamed like no other. He loved playing with his friends online and invested lots in playing during his free time. As fun as it may sound, it was not so much fun for me. I was a full-time college student trying to succeed academically. I lived through all of the raging reactions he often had. In addition to having a gamer brother, I also have three dogs. My dogs were pretty crazy together and always seemed to know how to get themselves into trouble. Due to my brother and dogs, it wasn’t easy when trying to study, do homework, or even take proctored exams. I spent a lot of my time in libraries filled with other students. Being in the library aided me in finding a quiet environment that helped me focus. Going through this sparked my idea of providing something I rarely had and giving it to others. I didn’t find an interest in opening up my library; however, I thought of something greater.
A coffee shop! I was a sleep-deprived college student who could not properly function without caffeine. Opening my own coffee shop meant I could knock two birds with one stone. Two birds being caffeine and a perfect environment for students, the one stone being academic success! Fast forward to Common Ground. The primary focus of Common Ground is to cater to dedicated students that are seeking a safe space to achieve their academic goals like I once was. Common Ground will serve not only as a hub for students but for the community. I want Common Ground to be more than a coffee shop; I aspire for Common Ground to be a haven for all.
Although I want to cater to students and provide a perfect environment for them, I also wish to cater to everyone else. Common Ground makes this possible with the layout of the shop. We have been fortunate to hold our business in a perfect, two-story building. The first floor is where our baristas will make the coffee, and our lounge area will be. Our lounge area includes tons of seating, a projector to watch movies, shelves filled with books/board games, and a stage. We wanted our lounge area to be an area where all can come when wanting to relieve some stress, whether that be with some light reading or live music. Our lounge area is a place where all can feel relaxed and welcomed. If you make your way up, you will access our study floor. Through design, the study floor is the perfect, quiet environment for students. We made this possible by providing a floor where students can access study pods, WiFi, and even a few desktop computers on this floor. Lastly, we are fortunate enough to sell excellent-tasting coffee, teas, and pastries. The shop has new weekly featured drinks, so anyone can find something they love! Common Ground embodies a haven for all who are seeking success and good times!
