First time in Asia

One night while in the office before I was about to turn off the computer and go home I realized that the talks I had been having with one of my colleagues about nature were causing me to want to leave Paris and go somewhere where nature is all around. While taking lunch with her she tall me that she was about to quit to go to Cambodia as a volunteer. Imagining the landscapes of this country, the natural charms, the marked difference with the Western culture made me sigh and wish to know this side of the world too.

One day I went home thinking and feeling a kind of minimal probability that I get to know this side of the world, I thought that I was just fantasizing and getting contagious about her trip. The next day the streets of Paris made their effect, don’t get me wrong, every corner of the city has its charms however the beautiful architecture, the lights, the Seine river I caught myself imagining the eastern landscapes.

Time took care to mature my desire. There are no casualities and those conversations with my colleague where having its effects: if you give direction to your wish it can be possible.

One night I decided not to go home and stay a bit longer in the office to send my CV to the emails I had obtained from my research on audiovisual companies in Indonesia. There I was, believing that coincidences do not exist, that these conversations about Batambang did not necessarily take me to Cambodia, that country was the adventure of my colleague, but to Indonesia.

Some of my emails didn’t get any answer, others refuse my initiative, they did not need no one at that moment. Later on an affirmative answer arrived. It took me a while to believe it, to assimilate it. Three months later I was arranging my bags to travel to Borneo and participate in an audiovisual production company that teams with NGOs that raise awarness on preservation of orangutans in Indonesia.

The gray Parisian sky accompanied my flight, after a few hours I arrived at Jeddah. Seeing the city before landing was something that impressed me a lot, being a mexican I know the desert of my country, that of Saudi Arabia was something that make me shiver. There I was stuck to the window, admiring the creations of nature, the number one creative in my list of talents that I admire.

Before arriving to Jakarta airport I was thinking this is it Elena you’ve just pass the lines that divide the earth and let us know the hourly uses, shortly before we were notified of the arrival the sky was giving the message: we are between the Ecuador and the Tropic of Capricorn. The blue and black sky welcomed us to the eastern jungle.
