During the 2016 year, there were Russian backed ads that appeared on Facebook. These targeted political stances, and some mentioned Trump and Clinton directly. Facebook is now under fire for this, because it is said that these may have influenced the election results. It is illegal for foreign nationals to try and influence U.S. elections. This has led to a federal investigation of Facebook and widespread criticism. It has also created a massive movement calling to take a closer look at how internet giants use their power. It has caused us to take a closer look at the ethics of the internet. The internet and its widespread use is fairly new, so we are still figuring out all of the rules of how it should work. In this case it applies to the real world, and Facebook is under investigation by the US government. However, the internet will inevitably create more problems that cannot be solved as easily.

To what extent should ethics on the internet be controlled?

This is tough because the internet encompasses all countries, and so no one country really has control over it. I think part of the beauty of the internet is that you can do pretty much whatever you want. Its much more open than the real world. I don’t think there should necessarily be a set rule of ethics for the internet, but people and countries can watch out for their own well being.

How does the internet connect technology and emotion?

The internet is really a platform for people to express their emotion, often through social media. It allows people to communicate with others that they couldn’t before. Peoples emotions aren’t always good, but the internet allows for free speech, which means any emotions can be expressed. It connects emotion of people through technology.
