Traffic

Everyone hates traffic even if your in no rush at all, you still don’t want to be in a traffic jam. And when you happen to press on your brakes and all of sudden stop moving on a 65mph highway, you always wonder why is everyone stopping? What in the world could of caused this 30 minute long traffic of cars. Its not always a car crash or emergency, but mostly just to many cars on the road at a time, with merging and people getting off exits. With cars coming onto the highway and cars getting off, there is a nonstop pressing on the brakes to slow down and then when one person slows down, the next person behind them have to slow down. This causes a chain reaction of cars behind the first few cars to all press on there brakes and then making a 5 minute jam into a 10 minute and etc. Relating this to linear systems i guess traffic on the highway could be its own system. The amount of cars entering a highway could be more then cars exiting the highway making a overload of cars. So you could call it the conservation of traffic.

Driving down I-95 everyday for school, i get stuck all the time. Especially going home late and being stuck I always wonder if every car in traffic right now stepped on the gas at the same exact time and no one pressed on their brakes we would be moving and not be dead stop on a 3 to 4 lane highway. But that could never happen unless everyone knew somehow to press on the gas pedal at the exact same time. Also thinking in terms of self driving autonomous cars one day in the future. If everyone later in the future had self driving vehicles would that mean less or more traffic?
