Zucc coin?

Facebook has recently announced plans to add a digital currency to its WhatsApp platform. The coin will be a so called “Stable coin”, with its value tied to the US dollar or other fiat currencies. Initially, the coin is targeted for money transfers in India, but will likely spread quickly upon adoption. Privacy focused messaging app Telegram is also planning to roll out “Mobilecoin” to its hundreds of millions of users. If these projects are successfully implemented, they could succeed where bitcoin has ostensibly failed, reaching a wide user base. If Facebook integrates its coin onto the entire Facebook ecosystem (Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp) it would reach about 2.7 billion people. While widespread adoption of cryptocurrencies would be great for the market and technologies around them, this feels an awful lot like how company towns would issue their own currencies for use in their own stores; a issued by Facebook, for Facebook, and controlled by Facebook. If they do release a centralized coin, what would be the technological improvement over paypal or venmo?
