How To Become Popular on the Internet!

Source: Giphy

It is no secret we humans are living through a digital age and it’s affecting youthful minds everywhere. 92% of teens claim they are on the web daily and 24% say they are online at all times. In addition, 88% claim they own a cell phone and on average, send 30 texts a day! It is not to be blamed however, as the Internet is an amazing tool. It can help us do things like find something we need, start a business or even make new friends!

Because of the number of people that are going on the internet is growing exponentially, branding oneself or making a name is rather difficult. After all, isn’t everyone craving popularity and attention in such a large pool of people? Well, it all comes down to how netiquette a person is. Netiquette is the combination of the two words, “net” and “etiquette.” It means: to know the true, acceptable way of being on the Internet.

Being able to understand a community and their interests comes a long way to becoming popular on the web.

Perhaps you are someone who just got started on the Internet, or someone who is online 24/7 and is still confused. Either way, here are some few easy tips to get you started on your Internet fame or help you beat out that one girl in school in followers!

The first and most important step of branding yourself is to find an Internet platform. Perhaps you enjoy Twitter because of the memes, or your best friend likes Instagram for the aesthetics, or the creepy guy you sit behind in math and is always on Facebook to stalk people. The point is, you must have a good understanding of the community each website has created and make it your own! Therefore, attract twitter followers by being funny, Instagram by posting artistic photos- and post whatever you wish on Facebook because that creepy guy is going to find it anyways!

No one is here to tell you that you need to update what is going on every second- but who would want to pay attention to someone who updates once every blue moon? If you want to attract an audience, you must keep them on their toes! Besides, let’s face it, people who do not update frequently seem kind of boring.

There is not much to be said here. Avoid offensive, delicate or triggering topics as much as possible. Do not be the guy that makes a joke out of these things, and definitely don’t post things that will upset your grandma! After all, nobody likes that guy!

Many people now have short attention spans and get bored easily. Whether it is through telling a story or being humorous, being retable is crucial! For example, the people most popular on YouTube, such as Liza Koshy or Dan Howell, are the most relatable ones. Be creative and fun and you will see you are slowly building a community.

A good example of someone who is following these tips are Wendy’s on twitter. Firstly, they are on the platform that fits well for them; twitter, and built a community around humour. Secondly, they update content frequently and people enjoy that. At the same time, they are appropriate and have not said anything to offend anybody. Lastly, they are relatable. They are responding to tweets and building a community by making others laugh. They are gaining much attention, and now, people who do not even like Wendy’s, are following Wendy’s.

Hopefully, you will take these tips into consideration before posting again. Good luck and make sure to make your mother proud!
