The power of the scribe

Anybody can write, scrawls on a page with
— fancy pens, pencil nubs, type letters, to
form coherent words on a screen dimmed
just right — but can you grab my mind by
the throat and dare me to look away —
crack my heart in two — to expose geodes
of wonder inside, the jagged pieces that cut
sever, the soft mounds that heal and kiss?
Anybody can write but —
can you enrage me, engage me — fuse me
to that page while your thoughts work on
the most inner of the inner-most me or
will your words be the sounding brass and
tinkling symbols of the pharisees? Anybody
can write but can you tame dragons as heads
of state and arrest the most powerful men in
the world with your pen— like Paulie Murry
who unsettled Roosevelt — and Eleanor who
made room for her at their door, as she gifted
straw for Thurgood Marshall’s bricks, that we
stand on today? Or do you bait the dear reader
to have them fall into a chasm of foolishness
and bullshit, scripted so slick that your SEO
plus Google response equal dollar and cents, only?
anybody can write — can you make me laugh
until tears streak my face, make me giggle
at the absurdity of life? or will you use this tool
as a cruel hammer, and point a crooked finger
at unsuspecting, visible souls tickling wicked
bellflowers for momentary bliss?
Oh yes — anybody can write.
